Hazel Green, Alabama
In the mid-1850s, US President Andrew Jackson was riding through a very quiet town with very few houses. He noticed that the local residents had planted many hazel bushes along the road, and how green they were. Jackson named the town "Hazel Green" for the Hazel Bushes that were so green. Ever since, Hazel Green has evolved into a thriving suburb of Huntsville, attracting many people due to it's location close to Huntsville. Hazel Green has also had a housing boom in the past 50 years. In 1960, the total population of Hazel Green was 151. As of 2010, the estimated population of HG is 5,000.
